ABC of Alabama Honors Gray with Diamond STEP Safety Award
Gray Construction was honored to receive the 2015 Diamond Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alabama at the Safe Day Awards showcase Friday, April 17. Established in 1989 by ABC, STEP is a merit based national safety recognition program which rates member safety and training initiatives. Of four designations, Diamond-level recognition marks the highest level of achievement, ahead of Platinum, Gold and Silver/Bronze.
To receive the Diamond STEP Award, Gray met the following criteria:
- Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR): 50 percent below NAICS code average
- Experience Modification Rate (EMR): Equal to or below 0.7
- Fatalities: None resulting in OSHA citations for the last three years
- 20 Key Components: Must meet the minimum score across areas such as employer involvement, resources for safety, employee participation, new employee orientation, safety rules, toolbox safety meetings, substance abuse program, personal protective equipment and more.
“At Gray, safety is our number one core value,” said Vice President of Safety Jim Grant. “We are committed to lead by example and aim to set the industry standard very high. We are proud to receive the ABC Diamond STEP Award and are honored to see our efforts being recognized on a national level.”
As a Diamond STEP award recipient, Gray is now eligible for the ABC National Safety Excellence Award, which recognizes companies who exhibit a continued commitment to jobsite safety, and whose safety performance and programs are judged to be exemplary by ABC’s National Environment, Health & Safety Committee.
