Heavy Lifting

Caterpillar’s new facility is used for on-site milling of axle components and final axle assemble for the company’s 700-series line of mining trucks.

This 850,000 s.f. greenfield required 15 deep foundations and 5,000 linear feet of utility trench to support the nearly 45-ton final axle assembly. Approximately 100 cranes ranging in size from 2-ton to 60-ton were utilized during the construction of this project.

Axels assembled at this facility will be used on trucks that are manufactured at the Caterpillar Athens, GA facility, another Gray project.

"Being able to say we're doing our job using more sustainable methods is good for our community, employees, customers, and shareholders. This facility uses 25 percent less energy and 40 percent less water than comparable buildings without the improved sustainability features."
Hans Haefeli, Former Vice President of Advanced Component and Systems Division
