We have been working with traffic management software to provide optimal paths for AGV (automated guided vehicle) and AMR (autonomous mobile robot) pickup and delivery based on real-time conditions at the facilities.”
Automation technologies like RFID tags and barcode scanners also streamline the process of tracking and managing inventory, reducing errors and improving overall accuracy.

Powers notes that most of the AI tools in the warehouse and distribution centers are focused on truck routing and logistics. “AI-powered systems can optimize routing for deliveries, factoring in variables like traffic, weather, and road conditions in real time,” he says.
Autonomous vehicles and drones can further enhance route optimization by enabling faster and more flexible delivery options.
Quality Control
AI-powered visual inspection systems are reimagining quality control processes in distribution centers. Using machine learning algorithms, these systems can detect product defects, damages, or irregularities with high accuracy and speed. Automated quality control processes ensure that only products meeting specified standards are shipped, reducing returns and enhancing customer satisfaction.
Workforce Management
AI tools are increasingly being used for workforce management in distribution centers. These tools can analyze employee performance data, predict staffing requirements based on demand fluctuations, and optimize shift schedules. Powers notes that data is the lifeblood of any AI solution. “Getting data to be incorporated in these large language models (LLMs) is a challenge for customers,” he says, adding “[there is] always the fear that their data will not be secure where it is stored. Creating a reliable network infrastructure is a major challenge when cybersecurity is such a big threat. Working with a system integrator and AI software provider, helps businesses overcome these challenges.”
Additionally, AI-driven predictive analytics or machine learning algorithms can help in forecasting demand and optimizing supply chain operations. “Large language model algorithms analyze vast amounts of data,” Powers says. “We use these models to identify patterns and correlations in this data. AI can predict future demand more accurately.”
