NexGen Spotlight: In Pursuit of Excellence
NexGen Contracting, Gray’s self-perform arm, isn’t just about erecting structures—it’s about building careers. Fortunately for NexGen, they have a seasoned human resources professional to help locate and acquire consummate professionals in the construction industry who are eager to grow themselves and the company through hard work and integrity.
Chelsea Trujillo has 17 years of experience in HR, with a passion for finding and nurturing talent. Her extensive background in the construction industry has equipped her with a deep understanding of its complexities and challenges. Reflecting on her past experiences, Trujillo emphasized the diverse nature of construction work and the importance of adaptability in navigating its ever-changing landscape.
One of the key aspects of Trujillo’s role at NexGen is to spearhead initiatives that support the company’s mission of building the next generation of builders. This includes outreach efforts such as high school career fairs and other job fairs and expos.
“A big part of my role is showing people who may be seeking a viable career option, or transitioning into a new career, all of the opportunities the construction industry has to offer,” Trujillo said. “Many individuals don’t realize how versatile the career paths are within the field.”
Despite being a small team, NexGen’s HR department is actively shaping the company’s future through initiatives such as performance management implementation, career pathway development, and strategic recruitment planning. Their goal is not only to meet the company’s immediate needs but also to lay the groundwork for sustained success and team member fulfillment.
What sets NexGen apart, according to Trujillo, is its commitment to fostering a family atmosphere amidst its rapid growth. NexGen prioritizes its people and cultivates a culture centered on mutual respect and support,
“Joining Nexgen isn’t just about finding a job,” Trujillo said. “It’s about embarking on a journey filled with unlimited opportunities, collaboration, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in the industry.”
