Gray and T. Marzetti Celebrate Groundbreaking on Manufacturing Expansion
Gray, a fully integrated, global solutions provider for the food & beverage market, and T. Marzetti, a Lancaster Colony Company, broke ground today on a 184,500 s.f. manufacturing expansion in Horse Cave, KY. After Gray completed the design-build of T. Marzetti’s initial manufacturing operation sixteen years ago followed by an expansion and original build of Sister Schubert’s dinner roll bakery facility, the company called on Gray to deliver robust service offerings.
The T. Marzetti operation in Horse Cave manufactures salad dressings, sauces and other foods for retail and food service markets. The expansion will provide additional manufacturing space and include new equipment to increase dressing and sauce production, new processing kitchens, and several packaging lines to meet growing customer demand.
“It’s a true honor to partner with T. Marzetti as they grow their operations,” says Stephen Gray, president & CEO of Gray, Inc., the guiding company for all Gray companies. “After working with T. Marzetti for nearly 20 years, it’s rewarding to play a role in their advancement and also bring process & packaging engineering through InLine Engineers, a Gray company.”
InLine Engineers integrated a wide range of equipment and process services for the operation, including four ingredient tanks, multiple pump skids, five high-shear kitchens, one cook kitchen, two bottle fillers capable of handling up to 400 bottles per minute, a clean-in-place (CIP) system, and new capabilities for labeling, case packing, and robotic palletizing.
“It’s exciting to see T. Marzetti continuing to advance the local economy as well as food & beverage industry,” adds Brian Jones, president & CEO of Gray Construction.
“Gray has been our local design and construction partner for many years, and we’re excited to again work with their team on this expansion which represents our company’s largest capital investment to date and will create hundreds of local jobs,” said Dave Nagle, Chief Supply Chain Officer, T. Marzetti Company.
The groundbreaking ceremony included an official “turning of the dirt” on site with speakers including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear; David Nagle, chief supply chain officer at T. Marzetti; Lisa Rathburn, vice president of engineering at T. Marzetti; Tyler Cundiff, president of Gray, Inc. Food & Beverage Group; Mayor Randall Curry, city of Horse Cave; and Joe Choate, judge executive of Hart County. Guests consisted of local government officials, partners, associates, and friends.
The expansion is expected to be complete in the summer of 2022 and will create over 200 jobs for the region.
