Safety Month: OSHA 10 and 30 Trainings Recap

The month of June is national safety month, spotlighting the importance of safety within the workplace. However, a safety-led organization knows that safety practices and training are important all year. At AD Process Equipment, safety and quality of life are the number one priority, ensuring everyone goes home each night. We have a moral imperative to ensure the workforce is safe, not just those in the Gray family, but everyone we come in contact with.

Part of building a safety culture is participating in trainings throughout the year. Earlier this year, members of the ADPE team recently completed the OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 training courses. Both of these training courses cover an introduction to OSHA, exit routes, fire protection, walking/working surfaces (falls), machine guarding, and LOTO (Lockout/Tagout). The primary goal and the root of the Gray culture as it relates to safety is ensuring that everyone goes home at the end of the day, the same way they showed up. No one should have to sacrifice their physical well-being to earn a living.

The OSHA 10-hour training program is an introductory course designed for employees who may occasionally go onsite. “I enjoyed OSHA 10 training because it equipped me with crucial safety knowledge and practical skills that are directly applicable to the workplace. The interactive nature of the training and the engaging content made learning about occupational safety both informative and enjoyable,” said Blake Wuestenfeld, Sales Engineer.

The OSHA 30-hour training program is intended to provide workers with some safety responsibility and a greater depth and variety of training. “The OSHA 30 training provided an improved baseline for recognizing and preventing safety issues both in our workplace and in the field. The group of ADPE employees who completed the training will frequently find themselves in safety sensitive situations, and their efficacy will be all the better for having completed the training,” said Conner Cox, Manager of Project Management. “Our focus on electrical safety, fall protection, and machine guarding will help our engineers design in alignment with best practices, and it will also ensure safe practices are followed by those in the field and in our shop.”

All outreach training is intended to cover an overview of the hazards a worker may encounter on a jobsite. Training emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention, not OSHA standards. “After class, a few of the folks came up to me to thank me for the information and tell me they have seen a change in the culture over the last few years. I made the point to say the change in culture wasn’t me. Yes, I come up and provide training, but it’s the people that work there every day that change the culture. Without their buy-in and dedication, the culture could have never shifted,” said Bill Carey, Safety Director, Gray Inc.
